The purpose of the campaign was to monitor that shops that are open have the necessary permits, and that protection measures like hand sanitisers are in place.

MOKOPANE – The Premier, Stanley Chupu Mathabatha embarked on a Covid-19 awareness campaign in Mokopane, Mahwereleng and Bakenberg earlier today.

Accompanied by members of the executive, the Mogalakwena Mayor, Andrina Matsemela, councillors and other stakeholders, the premier encouraged residents in these areas to stay at home.

The purpose of the campaign was to monitor that shops that are open have the necessary permits, and that protection measures like hand sanitisers are in place.

Shoppers were also encouraged to keep to the social distancing measures when queuing.

During the walkabout, shops of which the owners did not have the necessary permits were closed and the owners charged with non-compliance.

The delegation paid a visit to taxi ranks where taxi owners were asked for their permits. At roadblocks, motorists’ drivers licences were requested as well as their permits to travel and the reason for them being on the roads.

Medical officers screened some of the drivers for possible symptoms.
