Rise in coronavirus, Covid-19 cases in Limpopo

Limpopo now has 19 confirmed Covid-19-positive cases. This was on Thursday confirmed by Health MEC, Phophi Ramathuba.

LIMPOPO – “The increase is indeed concerning. We are no longer dealing with the enemy outside, but with the enemy within,” she said, adding that new latest cases were all local transmissions.

Given the rise, the MEC said a lot of work needs to be done.

“Once local transmissions start occurring, we need to step up our strategy.  This is why we have called on healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, and emergency services workers, to be recruited in the fight against COVID-19.”

She said the department will in the days to come improve its screening and testing drives, at various testing stations in the province.  The department cannot focus its energy solely on hospitals, intensive care units and emergency rooms, she added, “we need to be proactive by screening our people”.

“We ask that, if you are a qualified heathcare service worker, submit your CV so you can serve you country.  We need you to assist in the battle against this virus,” she appealed.

“We emphasise this: if people are not heeding the call to stay safe and stay at home, we are going to lose this battle.  We ask you to take this matter seriously in order to avoid more local transmissions.”
