Limpopo premier urges citizens to be more responsible as ‘most continue as usual’

POLOKWANE – The Premier, Chupu Stanley Mathabatha has once again called on residents of the province to be responsible during the national 21-day lock period, and stay at home.

“Reports from all over Limpopo have shown that from Musina to Lephalale, from Giyani, to Letaba, Thohoyandou to Malamulele and Mall of the North in Polokwane, that citizens thronged shopping malls without adhering to social distancing,” the premier said in a media statement on Friday evening.

The MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mavhungu Luruli Ramakhanya and MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba monitored the first day of the lockdown yesterday, and found that many citizens” “carried on as usual”, the premier said.

The Safety MEC said police at Thavhani and Paledi Malls would continued to monitor the situation. She assured Limpopo that police will continue to make sure lockdown regulations are adhered to.

With the number of Covi infections having risen to more than 1 100 in South Africa , the premier warned that transgressors of the lockdown regulations will be arrested.

He once again urged citizens to be responsible and help curb the spread of the Corona virus, by avoiding contact with other people.

A Special Executive Council will meet twice next week to evaluate and update on the lockdown process in the province.
