POLOKWANE – Since the president, Cyril Ramaphosa announced a nationwide 21-day lockdown which is set to start on Thursday, 26 March at 23:59 many people took to social media to voice their concerns and ask certain questions.

One of the questions asked was whether or not a person going to buy necessities will be allowed to travel at anytime. Review contacted Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, who confirmed that private road users have the same regulations as public transport when it comes to the amount of people who are allowed to travel at once. He however added that private road users are allowed to travel at anytime for emergencies and during business hours to buy necessities.

Traffic officials are regarded as an essential service and will operate as usual.

The above messaged states that truck drivers will be required to have a letter with them at all times with information about their company, so that they can be able to perform their duties without being arrested.
