[WATCH] Military vehicles seen in Polokwane ahead of lockdown

According to Commander of Army Support Base Limpopo, Albert Mukwevho the vehicles are however not being used to assist with the lockdown.

POLOKWANE – Ahead of the nationwide 21-day lockdown, military vehicles have been spotted in the city. Review contacted Commander of Army Support Base Limpopo, Albert Mukwevho to get clarity on whether or not these vehicles will be used to assist with lockdown operations.

“The lockdown will start at midnight and vehicles to support this operation will only be deployed closer to the time.

He added that the vehicles spotted in the city, will be used for training in the Eastern Cape while others are being refueled.

Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, on Wednesday 25 March, confirmed that the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) will assist police during this period in terms of the Disaster Management Act, reports The Citizen newspaper.

They SANDF will support in the following ways:
SANDF will assist SAPS with implementation measures.
The army will assist police with roadblocks and foot patrols and
the military will safeguard borders and ports of entry; and conduct search operations.
Soldiers will be deployed on Thursday at midnight.
