Local vets’ hours during national lockdown

Pet owners can rest assured that local vets will still be open during the national lockdown period from 27 March to 16 April. Certain regulations, however, will apply.

POLOKWANE – The Government Gazette stipulates that animal care and vet services are regarded as ‘essential services’ during the lockdown period.
According to the South African Veterinary council, vets will stay open. The public are advised that strict social distancing measures will apply in order to keep clients and staff safe.

Pietersburg Vet Clinic

Pietersburg Vet Clinic will be operating with skeleton staff and will be open to the public for consultations and collection of chronic medication and food.

Visiting hours during this time have been suspended – staff will however keep you up to date on your pet’s progress.

For emergencies outside trading hours, pet owners are advised to call the veterinarian on duty and arrange to meet at the practice. The number to call for emergencies is 083 631 7134. For any queries and further information phone the clinic on 015 291 2107.

Veterinarians will still be available to go out on large animal calls.

The practice has set the following guidelines to protect pet owners and staff:
1. Please use the F10 hand spray provided when coming into the clinic (outside and located at all receptions)
2. Our card machines are wiped down with F10 in-between uses, as well as consulting waiting room and consultation room.
3. Please keep a distance of at least 2m between people waiting for consultations or ask to wait in your car or outside in the parking area.
4. Please do not bring children or any other people with you to a consulation; only one person per patient is necessary.
5. Avoid handshakes or touching counters.
6. Contactless payments will be encouraged. We do have a cordless, tap-enabled card machine.
7. If you are not well, please do not come in. Rather send someone else with your animal.
8. If your animal is on chronic medication please call ahead so that the medication can be made ready for you, reducing time at the practice.
9. For dog/ cat food or wholesale products that are essential, please phone ahead again to try and keep time at the practice to the minimum.
10. Unfortunately we will not have visiting hours during this time. The nurses will however keep you up to date on your pet’s progress.
