Eagle’s Nest sports day: Learners urged to get tested for Covid-19

Eagle's Nest Christian School through a media statement, requested learners who attended the school's recent sports day, to get tested for the Covid-19 virus.

POLOKWANE – The event was held on 14 March.
The request came after it was confirmed this week that Netball SA President, Cecilia Molokwane, who attended the event, tested positive for the coronavirus and had been in contact with several people on the day.
The Health MEC, Phophi Ramathuba confirmed that the Health Department is in the process of contact referencing and tracing in this regard.

According to Ramathuba, the department has classified those who came into contact with Molokwane as ‘distance contacts’.
“We start with a person’s close contacts since they are at a higher risk of infection as compared to distant ones. We will, however, ensure that we test everyone who came into contact with her.”
Ramathuba mentioned that those who wish to be tested at a private facility can do so by visiting selected private medical centres.
“Those who do not wish to wait to be tested by departmental officials, can go for tests at their own expense,” Ramathuba said.
The Health MEC added that Molokwane had been attended the Boy Mamabolo Games, held at the Seshego Stadium a day later, on 15 March.
“We have contacted the boys that took part in the sports day and they are in the process of being tested. Some are are awaiting their results.”
Mamabolo, the organiser of the tournament, confirmed that Molokwane only interacted with a few people as she was mainly in the VVIP area, that had been barricaded off.
“Those who were in the VVIP section with her, all tested negative for the virus. People should not panic, as the Health Department is working to ensure that the virus is contained.”

The principal of Eagle’s Nest Christian School could not immediately be reached for comment.
