Following the announcement of the National State of Disaster by President Cyril Ramaphosa last Sunday, Polokwane Municipality has implemented measures and precautions geared towards fighting the pandemic.
Immediate steps that were implemented last Tuesday include suspension of municipal gatherings or contact sessions of more than 100 people, cancellation of briefing meetings for tenders, limited access to the municipal buildings, in particular the rates hall and traffic stations and cancellation of all bookings for municipal facilities by both internal or external stakeholders.
Spokesperson for the municipality, Thipa Selala urged residents in a media release to pay their rates and services via EFT instead of visiting the municipal rates hall. “All municipal contractors at various construction sites are also reminded to ensure that their employees are protected from health and safety hazards on the job,” Selala said.
Selala encouraged residents to frequently wash theirhands, maintain social distancing, avoid touching eyes, noses and mouths, practice respiratory hygiene and if fever or coughing is detected, to seek medical care.
“There will be a visible number of hand-sanitising stations throughout many of the municipality’s facilities for employees and customers,” Selala added.
