Man arrested in Polokwane for murder of 63-year-old Limpopo farmer

The arrested man has also been positively linked to a housebreaking and theft incident in the Polokwane area

LIMPOPO – The police have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the murder of 63-year-old Soyaphi Thomas Nkuna. The body of Nkuna was discovered alongside the R529 road next to Maphata village on 12 February. Preliminary police investigations indicated that the deceased left his home early the morning to patrol his farm and also to look for cattle.

At around 06:00 the police were notified about the discovery of a body and arrived on the scene to find the body of the deceased. He had sustained gunshot and stab wounds and cases of carjacking and murder were opened.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngeope says a grey Nissan Hardbody which belonged to the deceased was recovered in the Polokwane area shortly afterwards. The accused was again spotted in the area on Saturday, 21 March and was arrested by the police.

He will appear in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 25 March on charges of murder and carjacking. Ngoepe adds that the accused has also been positively linked to a house breaking and theft incident around the Polokwane policing area and will still be profiled to establish his links to other serious offences committed in the province.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba applauded the investigation team for cracking the case and bringing the man to book.
