Lack of support breaks local artist’s spirit
Moketla added that the only time when people support their music is when they become famous.
LIMPOPO – A lack of support makes local artist, Khomotso Moketla from Moletji, consider quitting her career in music.
Moketla has been producing amapiano music since last year but is not pleased by the support that she receives. “People do not support local artists, maybe because we come from rural areas. They do not take us seriously and this kills my spirit. If we as local artist organise events at local taverns the attendance is poor as compared to when a famous person is invited,” she said.
Moketla added that the only time when people support their music is when they become famous. She further pleaded with fans to uplift local artists.
Her Manager, Justinos Molokomme finds it difficult to manage artists because their hard work it not supported and he urges the public to support their music. “Local artists are the faces of the community. Please support them even if it is through sharing links and helping them get noticed. By not supporting their efforts can hurt their spirits.”
He added that supporting local music benefits the whole community because when they host events, unemployed people are able to come and sell food and other products at their events.
Isaac Boshomane, also known as Raycosta, said he has been in the music industry since 2010 and that he currently receives positive response from his fans. “In the beginning of my career I did not have everyone’s support. The only way people can know about you is when you are featured by other artists and when you regularly perform at events,” he added that other artists can be where he is, if they produce good music and are patient.
Review spoke to some residents to ask if they listen to local music, here is what they said:
