2 families attacked, property destroyed outside Mokopane

The motive for these attacks are not yet known

LIMPOPO – Two people were arrested following and incident where two local families were targeted in the Gilead area outside Mokopane this weekend. The two accused are believed to have been part of a group of people that went on a rampage in Harmony No. 1 village on Sunday, 22 March.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said in a statement on Monday that the group of people were armed with an assortment of dangerous weapons and during the attack several properties were destroyed and cattle stolen.

“On the day the group first attacked one family and burnt a cattle kraal and stole a few head of cattle. They then proceeded to the house of the second family, where they also attacked the members and burnt a vehicle and other properties.”

The police were alerted and initial investigations led to the arrest of the two suspects, aged 27 and 41. They will appear in the Gilead Periodical Court on several charges including malicious damage to property.

Moatshe added that more arrests are expected as investigations continue.
