In their measures to combat the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country, National Coordinator for National Taxi Alliance Frans Kgasago said they have engaged the Department of Health and various municipalities nationwide to provide masks and sanitisers to their commuters and drivers.
Kgasago said the taxi industry is self-sustained and they don’t have the financial means to purchase sanitisers and masks for all the drivers and commuters.
He said they the proposed the mask and sanitiser options to their commuters and some indicated that they will buy them but some said they cannot afford to keep up with the measures of combating the virus. “We are transporting more than 15 million commuters every day and we cannot afford to supply all of them with sanitisers and mask. However, we will be handing over educational pamphlets about the virus to commuters in all the taxi ranks in the country. These pamphlets will be posted on taxi windows. This move forms part part of our collective endeavours of creating awareness about this virus,” concluded Kgasago.
