Limpopo taxi owner (64) shot dead ‘while asleep next to his wife’

It is alleged the man was shot at through his bedroom window

LIMPOPO – Nkwatle Salthiel Tau, a taxi owner from Burgersfort was shot and killed at his home in in Ga-Rantho village on Wednesday, 18 March, says the police.

It is alleged the deceased was asleep next his wife when the assailant (s) broke the bedroom window and fired several shots in his direction at around 01:40, says Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.

His wife escaped unharmed and police and medical emergency services were summoned. Tau sustained gunshot wounds and was certified dead on the scene by emergency personnel.

Mojapelo says the motive for the murder is not clear at this stage but the police have not ruled out taxi violence. A case of muder is being investigated and no arrests have been made as yet.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba, has condemned the incident and instructed the police to hunt down and bring the perpetrator(s) to book.
