Police have launched a manhunt after a 64-year-old taxi owner was allegedly gunned down at his home in Ga-Rantho village in Sekhukhune early yesterday (Wednesday) morning.
Provincial Police Communications Head Motlafela Mojapelo identified the deceased as Nkwatle Salthiel Tau and indicated that he was allegedly asleep with his wife when an assailant broke the bedroom window and fired several shots at the couple before fleeing the scene.
Tau was hit in the process and Police and medical emergency personnel immediately responded after receiving the distress call. Tau was certified dead on the scene while his wife was unharmed, according to Mojapelo.
The motive for the killing is still unknown but taxi violence cannot be ruled out. Police investigations continue and no arrest has been made as yet, Mojapelo stated.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba condemned the incident and further instructed that the perpetrators be hunted down and brought to book.
Anyone with information in this regard is requested to contact investigating officer Mahlathini Ngele on 082 573 3645 or the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
