Staff members of Bolivia Estate surprised attending learners at Thlahlaganyi Drop-in Centre in Mankweng last Thursday when hampers containing soap, tooth paste, roll on deodorant and sanitary pads were delivered to the centre.
Bolivia Estate Marketing Manager, Mpho Rammabi said the outreach was part of the estate’s social responsibility initiative and that the centre was chosen because it had special needs and rendered a sterling service to people in need.
Rammabi added that some learners from adjoining schools even visit the centre during school holidays. “In some instances the two meals that the centre provides per day is all that the children have. We have also learnt that some of the learners take food home for their siblings,” she added.
Centre caretaker Caroline Bopape said that although the centre received a quarterly grant from Government, there was always a need for food and clothing. She appealed to the public to assist. “We are feeding more than 100 children per day and are very grateful towards churches and institutions like Bolivia Estate that reach out to us,” Bopape added.
