ANCYL in Limpopo vows to shutdown quarantine centre outside Polokwane

The ANC Youth League, Peter Mokaba branch says bringing the quarantine point to The Ranch Resort will put people's lives at risk and they vow to organise a march to disrupt the Department of Health's arrangements

POLOKWANE – The news that The Ranch Resort will serve as a Covid-19 quarantine proximity point has the ANC Youth League, Peter Mokaba branch up in arms.

It is the view of the league that having a quarantine facility in the province will likely affect the vulnerable tourism economy in Limpopo and they have vowed to close down the facility at The Ranch Resort should resort management and the National Department of Health continue with their plans and bring more than 100 South African citizens being evacuated from Wuhanmaking to the resort.

“Our bone of contention as the ANCYL, Peter Mokaba branch is that ‘the first site was identified in the Free State, and now that the Free State has reneged, Limpopo is seen to be a ‘low hanging fruit’ to play host to these patients’,” reads the statement.

It is understood that talks between the department and the management of The Ranch Resort, are at an advanced stage – and what is left is for the department to send the patients to the facility. Therefore we have engaged with the management of the resort in an endeavor to find common ground on the matter.

“A workable solution to this impasse would be that each province has its own quarantine facility.”

The leagues concludes that should the department and The Ranch Resort decide to be ‘arrogant’ and continue to put people’s lives in danger, they would organise a ‘mother of all marches’, and close the facility down.
