Seven people, including toddler die in N1 crash in Limpopo

The collision happened on the N1 north of Musina on Sunday evening

LIMPOPO – Seven people, including a toddler, have died after a SUV and a truck collided at around 20:30 on Sunday, 1 March.

The Toyota Fortuner crashed into the trailer of the truck along the N1 road between Musina and the Beitbridge port of entry shortly after the truck turned onto the road from the Preto truck shop.

Police Spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says the truck reportedly turned onto the N1 from a truck stop alongside the road, heading towards Beitbridge, when the Fortuner travelling in the opposite direction, rammed into the side of the trailer.

The Fortuner was trapped under the truck and Mojapelo says all seven occupants died on the scene.

The deceased included a baby boy of around 2-years-old, three women and three men. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Mojapleo adds that the process of identifying the deceased has commenced. Police investigations into the circumstances of the incident are also still unfolding, he concludes.
