POLOKWANE – After three years, acting the Principal at Laerskool Ivy Park, Willem Opperman, reaffirmed his commitment to maintain a spirit of excellence in academics, sport and culture at the school, following his appointment as principal.

Opperman told BONUS he is more than ready to take the full responsibility at the school and will handle challenges with kindness and fairness.

He holds a BA degree and Honours degree in education management from Unisa and the University of Pretoria and began working at Laerskool Ivy Park in 2006 as a head of department.

He says he fell in love with the school from the get-go and was later appointed as the acting principal thanks to his hard work and dedication.

“I have been dedicated to education for more than 15 years and I have worked with learners of different ages. I’m excited and eager to bring my skills as an educational leader and work with parents as partners in education to ensure their child’s success,” he added.

Along with the teachers and staff, Willem tells BONUS that they will work hard to continue the legacy of success established by the school, by building strong relationships with parents, learners and community partners.

“We will focus on character education initiatives, core skills, provide consistent implementation of the curriculum in a rigorous manner so that we can continue to increase all of the learners’ achievement,” he said.

Willem speaks highly of his biggest supporter, his wife Nita, who is a teacher at Pietersburg Comprehensive School (PCS).

“My wife and I love and treat all learners as our own children and that is what made us fall in love with this field, specifically. The children make our hearts smile in so many ways,” he added.

He concluded that staff are eager and excited to begin what promises to be the best year ever.

“As your principal, it is important for me that everyone who steps through our doors – teachers, learners and parents are excited to be here. This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment. My door is always open, and I welcome your input,” he concluded.
