‘Modimolle residents can expect water every other day’

Residents of Modimolle have been warned they can expect water every other day following the shutdown of the newly built Sondela Pump Station.

LIMPOPO – According to DA Leader, Jacques Smalle, the station was shutdown last week , only two months after it was opened, due to leaking pumps. These pumps have been sent back to the manufacturer and in the interim, one pump is being used from the Klipdrift Water Treatment Plant. This however, will reduce water supply to the town from six megalitres to two megalitres per day and force the municipality to ration water supply to the town.

Residents can now expect water every other day and then only from 04:00 until 16:00. Smalle added that this schedule will be in place until at least 3 March and urges residents to use water sparingly during this period.

The DA has blamed the shutdown on the ‘shoddy workmanship by Magalies Water’ and Smalle said the party has since escalated the matter to the Department of Water Affairs, Forestry and Fisheries (DWAFF) to urgently install alternative pumps while the service provider fixes the faulty ones.
