National Pregnancy Awareness Week was observed from 10 to 16 February and Mediclinic Limpopo took the opportunity to roll out a Pregnancy Educational Session at Savannah Mall on Friday.
Expecting mothers visited stalls in the banking mall where information about topics that included oral hygiene, swimming lessons for babies older that six months, speech therapy and audiology and even a gym for babies could be obtained from local service providers.
Exhibitors also had a variety of baby clothing, educational toys, maternity wear and ‘old fashioned’ cloth nappies for mothers who do not prefer the disposable ones on display, while professionals providing facilities such as ambulance services, blood testing and ultrasound sonar screening introduced their services. Officials of the Department of Home Affairs did their part to inform prospective parents about their obligations regarding the registration of new-born babies.
Mediclinic Limpopo Patient Experience Manager, Istha McMillan explained that Mediclinic Group annually hosted several international community campaigns of which the National Pregnancy Awareness Week is one.
She added that it is held in Switzerland, Namibia and the United Arab Emirates as well.
“Mediclinic Group also hosts community campaigns on diabetes and heart and stroke awareness in an effort to educate the public about health matters,” McMillan said.
