The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo has congratulated its student command for their decisive victory during the Student Representative Council elections in all Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Tvet) Colleges across the province. The elections ran from 3 to 24 February on all Tvet campuses in Limpopo.
According to George Raphela, EFF Provincial Secretary the student command won the elections at Vhembe’s Makwarela campus, Sekhukhune’s Apel and CS Barlow campuses, the Waterberg IT and Business campuses, Waterberg District Tvet as well as Capricorn’s Seshego Polokwane campuses.
He said the student command fought a good fight to secure a clean and dignified win in the elections. With reference to the defeat suffered by the South Africa Students Congress (Sasco) during the elections he said: “The victory is testimony to the fact that the ANC aligned Sasco is no longer popular with the student population because, just like its mother body, it has run out of ideas and has nothing more to offer to the students,” Raphela said.
He stressed that the EFF Student Command attained a landslide victory despite its little resources compared to its rival Sasco. “Judging by the results in the four regions, it is clear that Sasco, the Democratic Alliance Student Organisation and other Mickey Mouse student bodies are dead and buried. It is not T-shirts, liquor or money that win elections, but it is the ideas that resonate with the interests of students. The students need innovative and creative ideas that will ultimately ensure that they receive quality education. They need a student body that will fight for the decolonising of education and making it accessible and fashionable to all,” remarked Raphele.
“Gone are the days of Sasco monopoly in institutions of higher learning because students had no alternative voice at the time. The emergence of the EFF Student Command has offered a strong and alternative voice to student politics in South Africa.
Raphele called upon students in institutions where elections are still to be held to trust the EFF Student Command with their future. “The EFF Student Command has far more smarter, revolutionary and progressive ideas compared to the dead Sasco. The future of our students in Limpopo is very safe with the EFF Student Command,” concluded Raphele.
