Top achievers’ future plans

Review spoke to some of the learners at General Piet Joubert School and asked: what motivates them and what they look forward to accomplish this year?

Marema Makhura: "I am excited about my awards and strive to improve on my current work so that I can achieve even more in the new year. My teacher, Benjamin Raselalome always tells me to not let anyone belittle me. I want to be an entrepreneur one day and explore all things in the world."

POLOKWANE – The learners also expressed their excitement for the future and explained where they see themselves in a few years from now.

Terryanne Petersen: “I could not do anything when I started at the school and Mrs S Allison told me to keep trying until I could do something and today my parents are proud of me. I want to own various wholesale and retail companies.”

Mosa Makgoka: “I am full of joy after receiving my awards because it motivates me to work even harder and be an example to other learners. I am now the best at spray painting because my former teacher, Mr Benzine, never gave up on me and our school is fortunate to have teachers like him.”

Mmarena Mankwe: “Before I came here, I thought I was going to be a nobody in life but I now know that is far from the truth and I can be any person I want to be. The teachers are amazing and very patient. This is my last year and I am sad but I have to venture out to pursue my dreams to be a fashion designer.”

Nammosa Gilchrist Papola: “Seeing my parents full of joy when they called my name during the awards is what motivates me to achieve more. I would like to thank the Department of Education for building this school, I feel blessed to be here. I hope to be one of the people who brings changes into the city and to travel all over the country as a motor mechanic.”

Kutumela Melva: “I am excited because these awards made my parents very proud. Seeing all these learners here gave me a sense of belonging when I first arrived. I aspire to be a businesswoman and open companies around the area.”
