Limpopo Xitsonga poet renders poem at this year’s SONA

Collins Chabane Mayor, Moses Maluleke applauded Masingita Shivambu for the gig and urged other young people to emulate her.

LIMPOPO -Xitsonga poet, Masingita Shivambu rendered a poem before President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on 13 February. She said it felt unreal and like a dream come true when the received a call from parliament to inform her about the opportunity.

“I could not believe my ears. I was very happy and a little bit nervous about the venture and I would like to thank God and everyone who supported me from day one when I started doing poetry,” said Shivambu.

She started with poetry when she was in high school in Matiyani village and she has received invites to render poems at churches, weddings and birthday parties. She was invited to render a poem at the State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) of Collins Chabane Local Municipality in 2019 and scooped a prestigious award, Capital Excellency Awards (CEA) for best poet, in the same year.

Collins Chabane Mayor, Moses Maluleke applauded her for the gig and urged other young people to emulate her.

“We as the municipality are happy and proud of her and may she keep raising the flag high,” said Maluleke.
