POLOKWANE – Miss Bachelorette is a women-empowerment project with the main aim to give unmarried women recognition and honour through philanthropy, fashion and beauty.
“I mentor young girls to help them boost their self-esteem, do beauty pageants, public speaking, debate and stand their own ground. thrive to empower them to be better people,” Mashaba said.
She is heartbroken about the youth’s lifestyle in the villages.
“All they care about is where the next bash is. My peers have given up on their dreams and aspirations. As I try to empower kids from my community, I realise a lot still needs to be done,” she said.
She realised that it is not only her community that suffers, but the entire country.
“It is sad how men, our society and government respond to societal issues. We gave women a voice and we never taught men how to deal with the views from those voices.”
Mashaba started an initiative called #YouAreSafeWithMe.
“Children are scared when they go out because they do not know if they will make it home safely. I aim to bring back the spirit of Ubuntu and create an environment which gives people satisfaction to say you are safe with me. We need to work together as society to bring about the change we want to see.”
