Clinton is an ambassador of education and social justice

Mitchell House's new intermediate phase teacher, Clinton Tshepo Roberts says teaching gives him a platform to help form good, conscientious and inquisitive citizens who uphold justice and equality.

POLOKWANE – Having taught high school learners for most of his teaching career, Clinton has taken on a new challenge in the form of Gr 6 and 7 classes, saying he believes discipline is much less of an issue in primary school than in high school.

“Primary school learners tend to be more reliant on the teacher. I have had to remind myself to pitch low so that learners grasp what I am teaching. It seems to be going well so far and I’m glad to be imparting the knowledge and experience,” he said.

Originally from Florida in Johannesburg, he relocated to Polokwane in December 2019. Prior to working at Mitchell House, he worked at Ridgeway College in Louis Trichardt.

“I left the school because I was enticed by the amazing opportunities to grow at Mitchell House,” he added.

Clinton tells BONUS that he was offered a scholarship to study education on the Réunion Island, which he seized, and thereafter grew a passion for working with young people.

“I love the fact that young people are more receptive to growth in many aspects,” he said.

He advises aspiring teachers to be cognisant of the fact that teachers are powerful tools in building individuals and it is vital to be exemplary of the people they want to develop.

“I love the wealth of resources and facilities that Mitchell House has to offer that makes teaching and learning fun and effective. Also, the school community is warm, loving and places Christ at the centre of everything,” he said.

Clinton also has a wealth of degrees in various fields that are part of his love for education. With a diploma in education, a degree in health science (psychology), post honours in mental health psychology and honours criminology, he is currently doing a masters degree in criminal justice (forensic and police science).
