Following a discovery of textbooks that were reportedly dumped on an open field opposite a private health facility in the city last week, the Department of Education claimed the books didn’t belong to it.
Departmental spokesperson Sam Makondo informed Polokwane Observer that after they were alerted about the discovery, a team was dispatched to investigate on Friday. He further stated that their initial discovery was that the books belonged to three publishers and not the department. Makondo added that they have since involved the Police who took the books with them as lost and found.
“Anyone who lost these books can contact the Police. As the department, we have finished delivery of top up textbooks in November and we have not received any report that those that ordered did not receive their orders,” Makondo explained.
At the beginning of the year it was reported that study material was stolen at four Limpopo schools namely Mogabane Primary School in Ga-Dikgale, Jawe-Jawe Ledwaba Secondary School in Venus village, Nape Primary School in Ga-Madiba and Mamabudisha Secondary School in Mankweng.
By the time of going to print, comment from Provincial Police Communications Head Motlafela Mojapelo was still awaited.
