The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has warned that it would pay surprise visits to municipalities where fraud and corruption are perceived to be rife.
This after documents were seized from the offices of Mogalakwena Municipality by members of the unit on Friday.
Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke confirmed that documents had been taken but was not at liberty to disclose further details about the nature of the seized items. He however confirmed that the documents may be helpful in the ongoing investigations into alleged fraud and corruption at the municipality.
“We can assure municipalities where fraud and corruption take place that we will pay them a surprise visit,” Maluleke said and appealed to members of the public to report instances of fraud and corruption to them.
Spokesperson for the municipality, Malesela Selokela could not confirm the incident at time of going to print.
