Truru Street in Nirvana is no longer the icon of neatness that it used to be but instead has become a dumping site for domestic and garden refuse.
Polokwane Observer witnessed how household refuse deposited on the pavement of an apartment block as long as a week before collection day becomes scattered all over. Further down at the corners of Jerusalem and Lawton streets, the pavements and vacant stands have also been turned into a dumping site.
Communications and Marketing Manager of Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo said on Tuesday that the relevant strategic business units would be engaged to take the necessary action.
“We appeal to the public to make use of the dumping facilities that are provided by the municipality and direct residents’ attention to the fact that illegal dumping is a punishable offence,” Mothapo said.
