POLOKWANE – Protest action in Seshego left workers at the Seshego Circle stranded after frustrated residents took to the streets after three weeks of no water in the area. The protest began at around 02:00 this morning with residents burning tyres and blocking most routes in and out of the area. Workers at the centre were unable to gain entry into the premises and fear this will affect their work.
Review spoke to some of the workers about how the protest affected them this morning.
Victoria Heymann: “We were unable to open our shops on time, which means we will not be meeting our targets. We cannot work without water.”
Kgadi Mokgotho: “Service is now delayed in our area because I was supposed to be at work but now I am sitting here not knowing what will happen.”
Ivy Moabelo: “This protest has affected us negatively because we cannot work and that will lead to us not getting paid.”
Metja Sefala: “We now have to use money to commute to town to get what we need instead of shopping right here in Seshego.”
Mmabatho Ledwaba: “Our Mayor doesn’t take our concerns seriously. This could have been avoided if she listened to our grievance all along.”
