Seshego businesses affected by shutdown

This morning's protest action in Seshego led to the temporary closure of the Seshego Circle Shopping Centre. Several businesses were affected and Review spoke to a few of those affected.

POLOKWANE – Frustrated residents took to the streets in protest after three weeks of no water in the area and they blocked routes in and out of the area with burning tyres.

Dan Hlongwe, Manager of Cambridge Food, says the temporary closure of the centre has not just affected them. “We will be affected in terms of sales and productivity, but street vendors and spaza shops are also affected because they buy their stock at the shopping centre. Actually the whole community is affected,” he said.

Review also spoke to owners of shisanyamas who said that their businesses have been affected because currently they have nowhere to buy their meat.

Residents will also now have to spend even more money than they budgeted for to go buy food in town.

Phetola Nkwana from zone 2 told Review that the only way Seshego Centre may continue to operate is when the municipality gives residents the answers they want or when the water supply is restored to the affected areas.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says police are still on the scene to monitor the area as protesters vowed to continue with the shutdown until the matter is resolved.
