LIMPOPO – The police have opened an inquest after 21-year-old Swane van Wyk was mauled to death by lions last week.
The incident happened at a private game reserve outside Bela-Bela on Thursday.

Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe says preliminary police investigations revealed that the deceased was performing her duties when she was attacked and killed by an unknown number of lions. The police and medical emergency services were summoned to the scene and on arrival found the woman outside of the lion enclosure. She had sustained severe injuries and was certified dead at the scene.
The circumstances which lead to the said incident is still under investigation, Ngoepe adds.
