Watch as #ArmedForcesDay2020 arrives in Polokwane

The week long event will incorporate the South African Air Force, Navy, Military and Army.

POLOKWANE – The city will become a hive of military activity as the hosts of Armed Forces Day on 21 February. With week long activities planned from 14 February, the Armed Forces Day parade will take place on Suid Street on 21 February and incorporate the South African Air Force, Navy, Military and Army.

In preparation for the #ArmedForcesDay2020, SA Army and SA Navy Convoys decended in Polokwane last week with many more to come.

In a statement the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) says they will be moving some of their assets to the city and warns motorists to exercise caution when they come across the convoys on the roads.

The movement which will see inland and coastal units descend to Polokwane started today and will commence to Friday, 14 February. The convoys will comprise heavy vehicles and light-skinned vehicles, and will travel on the N1 north from Cape Town, through Bloemfontein, to Polokwane and on the N12 north from Kimberly, through Potchefstroom, to POlokwane, says Siphiwe Dlamini, Spokesperson for the SANDF.

This year’s theme will acknowledge 25 years of defence in South Africa’s democracy. Brig Maj Michael de Goede, on behalf of the Chief of the SANDF says the theme is in line with how far the army has come. “The social, physical and spiritual welfare of the community these soldiers serve remains of great importance. The youth can be inspired by what will be offered during the event and see their role models in uniforms,” he said.
