The prophet wanted to perform healing rituals and told the woman to purchase various items which included menthylated spirit.

LIMPOPO – A 26-year-old woman from Praktiseer was raped by a spurious prophet and this subsequently led the police in Tubatse outside Burgersfort to launch a manhunt.

According to Police Spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the rape happened on 4 February at around 11:00 and a 32-year-old man has since been arrested. The arrest was made on Sunday, 9 February at around 10:00 thanks to members of the SAPS Burgersfort Cluster Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences ( FCS ) Unit.

According to Ngoepe’s report, the woman received a call by a self-proclaimed prophet who is known to her.

The prophet wanted to perform rituals to heal her from her ailments and told the woman to purchase various items which included menthylated spirit. She was told to drink the mixture and started to feel dizzy after a few minutes, whereby he then raped her and afterwards fled the scene.

Ngoepe said that the police appeal to members who have been victims of this ‘prophet’ to come forth and help with the investigations.

Police investigations are ongoing.
