Limpopo Hawks investigate allegations of fraud, corruption at municipality
The Mogalakwena Municipality received a surprise visit from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Hawks, on Friday 7 February.
MOKOPANE – Matimba Naluleke, Spokesperson of the Hawks, said that they are currently investigating allegations of fraud and corruption within the municipality. He stated that during this visit, the officials searched the office of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for any documentation that could assist with their investigation.
This followed the announcement of the municipality being placed under administration on 18 December. An intervention team, headed by Frans Boshiela, reported for duty on 17 January and will monitor the municipality for the next 12 months.
The team consists of a variety of professionals who will assist with municipal finances, supply chain specialists, human resource specialists, information technology as well as legal and labour relations specialist. The team will have the full support of the Provincial Government and resources will be available at all times to restore the municipality’s constitution as well as legal processes.
