The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) warned that it will pay surprise visits to municipalities where fraud and corruption are perceived to be rife.
This follows after documents were seized from the offices of Mogalakwena Municipality on Friday.
Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke confirmed that documents were taken but was not at liberty to disclose further details about the nature of the seized items. He however confirmed that the documents may be helpful in the ongoing investigations into fraud and corruption at the municipality.
“We can assure municipalities where fraud and corruption take place that we will pay them a surprise visit,” Maluleke said and appealed to members of the public to report instances of fraud and corruption to the Hawks.
Spokesperson for the municipality, Malesela Selokela could not confirm the incident at time of going to print this afternoon (Monday).
