Five dead after vehicle collides with stationary truck in Limpopo

All five people were killed on impact, says the police

LIMPOPO – Four men and a woman were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck at Glen Cowie Village just opposite St. Rita’s Hospital at around 04:50 on Sunday, 9 February.

The deceased were part of a group of eight people travelling from Groblersdal to Jane Furse.

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe all five occupants from the Toyota LDV died on impact.

A further two people sustained serious injuries and the driver of the LDV sustained minor injuries. A passenger from the truck escaped the incident unharmed.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the driver of the truck had gone to look for help after a mechanical break down, Ngoepe says.

The deceased has since been identified as Katlego Mosotho (22) from Middelburg in Mpumalanga, Lebo Molongwane (22) from Ga-Matlala outside Polokwane, Bongani Moyo (34) from Makgofe outside Polokwane,  Elija Sejeng (27) from Tembisa in Gauteng and Silvia Mokiri (27) from Ga Phaahla in the Sekhukhune area.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Nebo Police Station. The circumstances leading to the accident are unknown at this stage but investigations still continues, Ngoepe concludes.
