POLOKWANE – Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba urges residents of Limpopo to remain calm and refrain from making statements about the coronavirus which may cause panic. Ramathuba  reiterated that there is no confirmed case of coronavirus in the province.

According to the MEC’s Spokesperson, Thilivhali Muavha, the Department of Health in Limpopo has noted that reports, suggestive that a patient of Ellisras Hospital in Lephalale has the coronavirus, are doing the rounds.

The statement by Muavha says the patient seen and admitted at the Ellisras hospital showed signs of fever, cough and respiratory distress. The MEC yesterday told Review that rumours that this patient in Lephalale contracted the virus is untrue. MEC explains:

“The patient is an employee at Grobler’s bridge post and does not meet the case definition of the suspected coronavirus. Doctors admitted the patient and isolated him as a precautionary measure while continuing with all other tests to exclude any underlying infection because the fever was not subsiding,” Muavha said.
