Drowning victim (13) buried

Given Matamela (13) drowned while swimming with his friends.

LIMPOPO – A Grade 8 learner from Luvhaivhai Secondary School in Lwamondo-Mutandani village outside Thohoyandou, who drowned in the Dzindi River two weeks ago, was buried in the village‘s graveyard on Saturday.

He was described as a young boy who had big dreams and who took education seriously. The school choir sang songs in tribute to their classmate in paying their last respects.

A family representative, Patricia Malwela said they were saddened by his untimely death. “Although it is difficult to cope with the situation, we accept it and think that God has done his will. We live each day as it comes, but no one knows what will happen tomorrow.”

Dr Mudau, who represented Luvhaivhai Secondary School, said the school was saddened by the boy’s passing.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said an inquest was opened with the Vuwani police who are investigating the incident.

He confirmed that the deceased was swimming with other children, when he drowned.

“The police and community went to the river to conduct a search, and managed to retrieve him. The boy was certified dead at the scene and police investigations are still going on,” Mojapelo said.
