POLOKWANE – A 26-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Thabazimbi for the rape of a 52-year-old woman.
According to a statement released by Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the rape occurred at an informal settlement in the area on 2 February.
The woman was reportedly asleep when the man broke into her room and raped her. Ngoepe said the woman managed to escape and call the police, after the perpetrator fell asleep.
The police arrested the man in the victim’s room. Ngoepe said preliminary investigations have shown that the man has been previously arrested for housebreaking and theft, for which he was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
The man is set to appear before the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court soon and police investigations are still ongoing.
