Tokon promotes Ubuntu

The support of the community is necessary to build a better society, free of crime and social ills and one where the spirit of Ubuntu lives on.

POLOKWANE – This is according to shodan Fazlin Jardien, an affiliated instructor of the Tokon Shotokan Karate Ken and Iai Jitsu Academy (TSKKIA International).

TSKKIA International is a group of martial arts practitioners who facilitate self-defence and karate classes in the Nirvana and Westenburg areas.

“We aim to reach out to schools and communities where violence against women and children is on the increase,” says Jardien. Jardien is a first dan black belt and is qualified to teach bare hand as well as weapon fighting in her club.

Fazlin is all about uplifting people through karate

Many have the misconception that karate teaches fighting only, she said.

“Karate teaches sincerity, maximum effort, the correct etiquette, self-control and respect. Over and above all it teaches humility, self-confidence, conflict resolution and the ability to accept challenges and conquer. It teaches you to rise up when you face defeat or victory and accept that tomorrow will always bring new challenges.”

The classes are for people of all ages with the youngest student aged five and the oldest student aged 63.

“We would like to offer this programme in Polokwane, Mankweng, Seshego and Westenburg.”

Classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 18:00 to 19:00. For info, email; karate@tokonsamurai.co.za, call 084 702 1642 or visit www.tokonsamurai.co.za.
