Three toddlers drown in tragic incident outside Louis Trichardt

The deceased are between 3 and 4 years of age

LIMPOPO – The police in Mphepu outside Louis Trichardt are investigating an incident where three children, aged between three and four, drowned in the local swimming pool at Tshituni Tsha Fhasi Village on Friday, 31 January.

It is alleged the toddlers, who resided in the same street as the premises with the swimming pool, were playing nearby and wandered off, gained entrance to the pool premises unnoticed, said Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngeope in a statement.

An elder brother of one of the children, who noticed that they were missing went to look for them and discovered all three toddlers, two girls and one boy,  floating unconscious in the swimming pool. He immediately alerted his mother who rushed the children to the local clinic. They were all certified dead on arrival, Ngoepe explained.

The deceased were identified as Mashudu Angel Langanani (3), Ramovha Vhutali (4) and Shandukani Never (4).

The police have opened three inquests and the investigations into the matter continues.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has advised parents and guardians to closely monitor their children in order to avoid unfortunate incidents such as this one for happening.
