Man (52) sentenced for cheque fraud in Limpopo

Andries Johannes Els was in custody until he was found guilty and sentenced

LIMPOPO – A 52-year-old man arrested for fraud was convicted and sentenced to seven years direct imprisonment without an option of a fine.

Spokesperson for the Hawks, Capt Matimba Maluleke said in a statement that the police arrested Andries Johannes Els on 15 February 2019, after he presented a fake cheque in a bank in Tzaneen.

“The cheque was for R496 000 and after the bank personnel became suspicious, ascertained the cheque they found it was cloned.”

Els was arrested on the spot in the bank and the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime investigation was entrusted with the investigation of the case.

Maluleke says he was in custody until he was found guilty by the Tzaneen Regional Court on Tuesday, 28 January.
