Community determined to continue the search and the fight against gangsterism in Seshego

Seshego was once again brought to a standstill on Sunday as hundreds of residents took the law into their own hands in an attempt to rid the area of gangsterism.

POLOKWANE – The community gathering comes in the wake of Thorisho Kgomo’s murder, as well as a series of other crimes in the area.

A similar meeting was held last Sunday, in the interest of establishing a safer community.

As reported last Wednesday, this meeting soon got out of hand as residents went in search of suspects, in the process damaging property and assaulting individuals.

On Sunday, the meeting once again took a turn when an alleged gangster was confronted in Extension 44 and was stripped naked and beaten by the angry mob.

The man was one of eight alleged gangsters who were handed over to the Seshego Police Station by EFF Provincial Leader, Jossey Buthane and community leader, Victor Makhura.

According to Makhura, the community worked tirelessly the night before, searching for perpetrators alongside the police.

“We are not happy because we didn’t see the people that we were looking for. We will continue the search and the fight against gangsterism, which is taking over Seshego. We are sick and tired of them.

“They are released without being charged due to their contacts within the police station.”

He said they would take the law into their own hands should the police not do their jobs.

In addition to searching for alleged gangsters, Makhura said they managed to confiscate drugs in Ladanna and close liquor stores in Seshego that were operating without licences.

“We will operate with the Seshego Taxi Association to search for the gangsters we are still looking for. The problem that we are facing is that parents are hiding their children, knowing what they’ve done.”

EFF leader, Josey Buthane says he is worried that the Seshego Police Station does not have the capacity to deal with criminals.

Buthane told BONUS he was worried that the Seshego Police Station does not have the capacity to deal with perpetrators brought in.

“We will continue taking these gangsters to the police station.

“So far, we have handed over 15 alleged gangsters but it is a small number compared to what we know of.”.

SAPS Provincial Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed that the alleged gangsters were handed over and that police were deployed to the area to monitor the situation.
