Freak accident victims said to be from the same family

Two of the learners were in critical condition while the other two were killed when a food delivering truck crashed into a wall where several learners were standing.

LIMPOPO – The four children involved in a food truck delivery incident at Lekgolo Primary School at Ga-Mamaila village on 22 January, have been established as members of the same family. The deceased, Sello Fortunate Mohale (7) and Rethabile Nakana (5), were killed when a truck, delivering food as part of the school feeding scheme, crashed into a wall where several learners were standing.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says the truck’s trailer hit the wall and a portion of the wall collapsed onto the learners, instantly killing the two and injuring three others. The injured learners were taken to a hospital for medical treatment and two of them were in a critical condition.

The two who were in critical condition were discharged on 23 January and it has since been established that the four learners are from the Mohale family in Mamaila, Kolobe Tona village.

The Mohale family as well as the school were paid a visit by Education MEC, Polly Polly Boshielo to express her condolences.

“We are a department in mourning as this pain is too much to bear for the family and the entire school community. We are relieved that the injured learners have returned home and we shall monitor them closely and provide the necessary psychological support so that they are able to cope with this tragic experience,” said Boshielo.

The psycho-social unit of the department as well as social workers from the Department of Social Development have provided the necessary counselling to the school community and the bereaved family.
