Two learners killed after wall collapses at school in Limpopo

The freak accident also resulted in three others being injured

LIMPOPO – The four children have been established as members of the same family. The two who were in critical condition were discharged on 23 January and it has since been established that the four learners are from the Mohale family in Mamaila, Kolobe Tona village.

The Mohale family as well as the school were paid a visit by Education MEC, Polly Polly Boshielo to express her condolences. The psycho-social unit of the department as well as social workers from the Department of Social Development have provided the necessary counselling to the school community and the bereaved family.

LIMPOPO – The Police in Sekgosese have opened a case of inquest after two learners were killed after a wall collapsed at Lekgolo Primary Schòol at Ga-Mamaila village.

The incident happened at around 11:15 after a truck, delivering food as part of the school feeding scheme, crashed into a wall where several learners were standing.  The truck’s trailer hit the wall and a portion of the wall collasped onto the learners, killing two instantly and injuring three others, says Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.

The injured learners were taken to a hospital for medical treatment, two of which are still in a critical condition.

The deceased have been identified as Sello Fortunate Mohale (7) and Rethabile Nakana (5).

Limpopo Premier Chupu Mathabatha has since confirmed that the deceased are from the same family. He has called on the MEC for Education, Polly Boshielo to ensure investigations are underway to find out what actually transpired.

Circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation, Mojapelo concludes.

LIMPOPO – The Department of Education has dispatched their psycho-social unit after two learners were killed in a freak accident at a school in Mamaila outside Elim in the East Education District of Mopani.

Initial reports indicate that a delivery truck crashed into the wall of the school causing the wall to collapse and as a result killing two learners and seriously injuring two others. The injured learners have been rushed to the Kgapane Hospital for medical treatment, says Departmental spokesperson, Sam Makondo.

“The psycho-social unit will provide the necessary trauma counselling of learners, educators, support stuff and the bereaved families.”

MEC Polly Boshielo is on her way to Lekgolo Primary School. This is a developing story.
