Emergency repairs at substation prompt power outage

All areas supplied by the Gamma, Delta and IOTA substations are affected

POLOKWANE – The power outage currently being experienced in parts of the city is due to emergency repairs which need to be carried out at a substation.

The Gamma, Delta and IOTA substations had to be switched off to carry out the replacement of a damaged isolator. This is in order to prevent any major damage on the networks, says Thipea Selala, Spokesperson for the Polokwane Municipality.

Affected areas include Laboria, Futura, Ladine, Ladanna, Lesedi Park and Emdo which are fed by Gamma substation; Eduan Park, Welgelen, Bendor and Mall of the North which are supplied by Delta substation. Affected areas that are supplied by IOTA substation include Savannah Mall, Serala View, Thornhill Estate, Thornhill Shopping Complex, Flora Park and Turfloop 11kV line and all other areas that are reliant on that line.

The interruption will last up to two hour, “should all go well’ says Selala.
