Missing toddler (2) rescued

The child was found dehydrated but unharmed

LIMPOPO – Lethabo Mashiane (2) who was reported missing on Monday, 13 January has been found safe and unharmed, says the police.

Mashiane went missing from his grandparent’s house at around 18:00 on Monday evening. According to reports the child’s grandmother had left him with her husband at their house in Ga-Chuene- Marulaneng village. Later the same evening she received a call to return home as the child was nowhere to be found.

The police were notified and an intensive search operation was launched and lasted until Wednesday, 15 January when the child was found in the bush a few kilometers from his home.

The search operations was conducted the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit and composed members from Lebowakgomo Police Station, the K9 Unit , the Search and Rescue Unit and Mounted Unit, joined by local emergency Services and residents of Marulaneng Village at Ga-Chuene.

The child was found lying helpless on top of a rock about 10km from his home. He was dehydrated but otherwise unharmed says  Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.

He was taken to a local clinic for observation.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has applauded the police and residents for their joint efforts in locating the child. We also urged parents and guardians to ensure that they, at all times, keep track of their children’s whereabouts.
