Pepps teacher says it is never to late to be educated

"Education is empowering because no one can ever take it away from you," says Matebogo Lethole

POLOKWANE – These are the words of educational psychology graduate and PEPPS teacher, Matebogo Lethole. Lethole, who resides in Flora Park, says it is never too late to be educated but that it is better to get everything done while you are still young. She takes her own advice as she plans to go after her masters degree in educational psychology.

Lethole told BONUS that despite teaching at a ‘mainstream’ school, her true passion lies in working with children with special needs. “I would like to work with children who have learning barriers, but for a start, I think it is best to start in the mainstream and move into a special needs school later on,” she said. Her work experience began at a catholic school while she was still studying full time and although it was a task and a half balancing the two, it somewhat made it easier for her because what she had studied, she saw first-hand in the classroom.

“Being able to see what I was studying, physically, helped me to understand my work better. It was still hard to juggle full-time work and full-time studies. I lost count of how many times I broke down, it was almost on a weekly basis,” she added. She explained that she would at times feel so overwhelmed that she would break down because of little things around her that usually would not matter. ”

Anyone still in doubt about continuing with their studies should just do it. It does get really bad but if you are determined, no one can stop you from getting it done,” she concluded.
