Illicit cigarettes worth millions seized at roadblock south of Polokwane

POLOKWANE – Illicit cigarettes worth R2,2 million were seized during a road block on the N1 road south of Polokwane on 31 December. This roadblock was part of the Safer Season Festive Operations which have been running since 18 December to date.

Other successes include the arrest of 271 undocumented foreign nationals during roadblocks and stop and searches throughout the province. Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said in a statement on Sunday that 54 people were arrested on the same during the above mentioned roadblock on 31 December.

During the same period, 237 Shebeens were closed, 94 licensed liquor premises were charged for non-compliance with the Liquor Act and six were closed.

These joint operations still continue.
