Truck driver burnt alive in apparent petrol bomb attack in Limpopo

Two other occupants from the truck sustained serious burn wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

LIMPOPO – The police in Sekhukhune urge anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the people responsible for the torching of a truck where one man burnt to death and two others were seriously injured on Friday, 3 January at around 17:00.

In a statement Police spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo says the deceased and two crew members were travelling along the Jane Furse/Sekhukhune road when two unknown people threw what looked like a petrol bomb at the truck. The front of the truck caught fire and the driver was burnt to death. His crew members suffered serious burn wounds. and were taken to hospital.

The truck belongs to a building supplied company in Jane Furse, Tshehlwaneng village.

Initial police investigations have revealed that the incident may be linked to the ongoing strike by employees of the said company which resulted in some of them being dismissed.

A case of murder, two counts of attempted murder and malicious damage to property have been opened, Mojapelo adds.
